Project Overview

CTSS installed direct-burial-rated micro-armored fiber through an existing underground communications pathway serving a multifamily property. The route passed through multiple communications manholes located throughout the grounds.

Technicians accessed the underground vaults, evaluated the existing cable pathways, positioned pulling tape, staged the fiber across the property, and routed the new cable between access points. Using the existing underground infrastructure reduced the need for extensive excavation through finished landscaping and pedestrian areas.

The Challenge

The property's underground communications route contained numerous existing cables, limited working space, and standing water inside portions of the vault system. The fiber also had to be routed between access points positioned across lawns, sidewalks, and occupied common areas.

The installation required careful cable handling and route preparation to avoid damaging the new fiber or disturbing the existing communications infrastructure.

The Solution

CTSS opened and inspected the communications manholes along the planned route before beginning the cable pull. Pulling tape was routed through the existing underground pathway, and the micro-armored fiber was staged above ground to allow controlled installation between each access point.

The armored construction provided additional protection for an underground environment, while the existing vault and conduit system allowed the cable to be installed with limited disturbance to the surrounding property.

Results

The project established a new underground fiber route across the property using the existing communications infrastructure. The cable was successfully routed between the required access points while limiting disturbance to lawns, sidewalks, and other finished surfaces.

The completed installation provides the physical fiber backbone needed to support dependable, high-capacity connectivity across the property.
